It is a stainless steel industrial desktop keyboard, eliminating the need for installation.

So, what happens if we integrate a GX12-4P connector into a stainless steel keyboard?

This combination offers you 4 specific advantages:

  1. Secure connection: the screw-lock design makes it much more stable compared to standard plug-and-play connectors, making it suitable for devices subject to vibrations or mechanical movements (e.g., robots, robotic arms, vibrating platforms).

Which Keyboards Can It Be Integrated Into?

This type of connector is generally used only on stainless steel desktop keyboards and mice, but it can also be integrated into other models.

Why It Can Only Be Integrated into Metal Keyboards: 4 Reasons

This type of connector is not integrated into keyboards made of silicone or glass because the material these keyboards are made of cannot securely hold this type of connector for the following reasons.

  1. The first factor to consider is mechanical compatibility.
    Metal keyboards can support the mounting of these connectors without deforming,whereas silicone or lighter-material keyboards may not withstand the weight or torque of the connector, risking breakage or malfunctions.

  2. IP Rating and Protection.
    GX12 connectors are often IP67/IP68 (dust and water resistant).
    To ensure this protection, the keyboard body needs to be tight and rigid, typically made of metal.
    This is why silicone or glass keyboards could not provide the same watertight seal with these connectors.

  3. Electrical Compatibility and Shielding.
    The GX12-4P is a metal connector that provides shielding against EMI/RFI interference.
    Metal industrial keyboards naturally benefit from this shielding; on silicone or lighter keyboards, the advantage is reduced, and the shielding may not be effective.

  4. Industrial Usage Standards.
    Many manufacturers of metal industrial keyboards choose the GX12-4P connector because it is a well-established standard for harsh environments.
    Non-metal keyboards often use mini DIN, USB, or RJ45 connectors, which are lighter and more suitable for less demanding applications.

In summary…

The GX12-4P is not used on other keyboards mainly because it requires a robust, often metal, structure for mechanical support, environmental protection, and electrical shielding. On other types of keyboards, it could suffer physical damage, lose its watertight seal, and provide poor protection against interference.
